Nursing Job

So after you graduated BS Nursing, took the Nursing Licensure Exam, employed in a call center while waiting for the result and when it finally went online you decided to take the nursing job now. The question is, how when and where?

Employment basics, starts with requirements and it should be more or less the following:

+ Application Letter

+ Resume

+ 2x2 pictures (some institutions require 2pcs)

+ TOR and RLE summary (in photocopies...some would require 2copies in separate envelopes)

+ Diploma (in photocopy)

+ Board Rating/Certification/Claim Slip/License ID (in photocopy)

+ PNA ID (in photocopy)

+ Recommendation from your Dean / Good Moral

Additional Requirements, some institutions may need them ready already:

+ NBI clearance (in photocopy or not)

+ SSS E1 number (in Photocopy) *

+ Philhealth ID (in photocopy) *

+ TIN number (in photocopy) *

+ Pag-Ibig number *

*usually the company will assist you on this, but its better that you have these already

If you came from a Call Center (not in AWOL status) prepare your Certificate Of Employment or better known as the COE.

Once you have passed these already, the HR department will just call you or just take note of their instructions.

Suggestions:

If you have family working in admin offices in some hospitals, then better take the advantage (its a trend you know).

You may also sign-up in some agencies that supplies company nurses.

Or you may want to practice medical field in some ways like the one i mentioned above a company nurse, a school nurse, a medical representative, or a call center agent handling medical account.

There are a lot of ways, just try to be confident and real. Review and Reflect.

Earthquake 2012

February 6, 2012 around 11am, me and my friends were on the jeepney talking. I didn't notice anything until all the passengers starts talking to each other in an anxious way, and then we learned that an earthquake just happened. That was a very disappointing time for me, cause I didn't have presence of mind. And without thinking again, we still head on and went downtown to buy things for our new house.

A lot of people were outside, crowding the main roads of metro Cebu. Everyone from the buildings went down to make themselves safe from the skyscrapers. Until we reach the nearest crossing we could possibly get off and go to the general merchandise store in downtown Cebu. The people we're still outside, students from University of Cebu were lining up to go some place away from the buildings.

For a few moments, we forgot about the very recent happening. Then we purchased our stuff, went to Ramos riding a jeepney again. I remember we actually talked about Tsunami as an aftermath of earthquakes, like what happened in Japan perhaps, but that didn't really convinced me that would happen in Metro Cebu, or the whole Visayas perhaps.

I actually texted my mother about what happened earlier that time when we were still on our way to downtown, and she claimed, they experienced it too. And from the words of some people we hithced with, they said it was in Negros (which later News confirmed that the epicenter is in that place) and magnitude of about 6.9.

Then we rode a taxi to head back home, until my mother called me through my friend. Alarming me to go highland because allegedly radio reported tsunami occurred and would hit Metro Cebu at 5pm that time. So we were bothered, and then we panic for a while when we saw a lot of people along Jones Ave. running forward on the direction to the Capitol Site. You can really see on their faces their panic and some even cried (maybe confused why other people were also running). And so I bravely ask another person from another car of the reason why people are racing forward*, and he replied that allegedly* water is at that time filling colon street (well at least not really a flood, just imagine a dramatic rise of water). Well, at that time I was really convinced that it could happen.

I wanted clarification, and the radio on the taxi was just chillin', I mean no alerts or breaking news instead it was an afternoon radio drama of "Handoomanan sa Oosa Ka Ugh-wit" (spelling goes like that, i kind of based it on how the narrator read it, its bisdak, I might be wrong on that, anyways...) so I asked Mr. driver to change station and scan for news alerts. And then we had the news, and confirmed there is no tsunami but the people are still running, hurrying, packing up.

There was just something I noticed with the news that we were listening to at that time, they should not tell/convince people that there is no tsunami by saying that 'even the shores are on low tide' cause I remember that is one of the indication of an upcoming tidal wave. And authorities should study their expertise, not popping out on radio station and unable to differentiate TSUNAMI ALERTS # 1 and 2, people get confused you know and some would like to out-smart and we don't unite with that.

And going back to our panic trip. I decided to go upward, I thought Lahug was the place, just in case. Eventually we head back to Guadalupe. We went inside Fooda, a supermarket, and when we were about to line up to the cashier, we were surprised with a terrible shaking on the floor and on the ceiling and I actually panicked. When I had sight on my friends, we then hurried down claimed our things and went to the road joining other people who were shocked with the aftershock (rhymed).

Another aftershock around 11pm-12pm. We actually then packed-up foods on one bag and also water. And then we had a goodnight sleep.

The lesson is, prepare, don't panic, be ready.

regrets

Facing these bitterness and complication, I think its better that I fly away and leave it like that. Regardless of the damages, regrets always comes in the end.

It always murder my mind. I guess the gravity of this situation is affected by earthly units. Evil as always, unless well managed.

Maybe this time it will work, or maybe this idea is better than staying and feeling guilty.

Make plans and do the right thing, that should have been my savior.

So whatever happened, I still want to write things and translate into words my ideas which are bugging my mind.

I have been away from this internet literary world because I felt less excited and felt odd. I found myself wondering through the ceiling in my four cornered room. Less inspired even for the fact that at that moment I could have done something interesting, maybe write stuff, produce visions or whatsoever.

My realizations has become irrelevant, unsatisfying. No push, No force, nothing at all.

Thanks to Sun Easy Broadband, I have my own internet on the go now. So maybe that was the lacking piece in this so called passion in writing--- internet connectivity. BUT, no it wasn't the only thing.

I spend my first Christmas here in Cebu City, but I didn't like writing or documenting it or at least the drive that I had before. Spend New Year in my home town with family, and still no trace in my history book. Well, I guess the most disturbing part was during new year, when I had to, without any choice, seek for the truth and plan how to face it.

My life in the city is not happy anymore, full of burden. In my pocket, in my mind, i my sanity. Back at home, I was hiding from my discovery that I wish wasn't true or wish no one knew. I grew mad, deep inside. I learn how to fool my own self, on how I project myself with my friends, close friends, dear friends and so on. I wanted to keep all these troubles and threw it where nobody can look to it anymore.

I am tired, tired of all the excuses. Tired of procrastinating or overdoing things OR even over thinking a LOT of things. I wanna get out in this quick sand I'm in.

So, this must be how it feels, that even Myra E couldn't relieve... STRESS.

I want to breathe.

So today after the doctor's appointment, I directly headed to Keppel where my friend told me that there is a job opening there. Well, she is working already there.

Went there at 2pm, lots of people were already waiting for their turn. I got mine around 3pm. The interview was a bit lighter now. Then they made me answer a 100 item test.

So my question now, when will those companies contact me?

Even if I was born in Oroquieta, I was raised in a simple town called Medina. Located at the Northern part of Mindanao Philippines.

Simple as it is, it boasts nature wonder from mountains to aquatic resources .

Medina is a 4th class municipality in the province of Misamis Oriental, Philippines. According to the 2000 census, it has a population of 25,810 people in 4,945 households.- http://bit.ly/op8kjf

Where is it? No one would probably pin point the place because the name Medina is also a city in the Hejaz region of Western Saudi Arabia and also a town in Ozamis City. So when you look for my town Medina, you should consider adding Philippines or Misamis Oriental to really narrow down the results.

Duka Bay, this may sound familiar now. Yes the famous beach in the region, and it is one of Medina's favored spots.

Going to Medina is easy. Let's put on a scenario, you are from abroad and you want to visit the place so...

1. Book a plane to Manila or Cebu, Philippines. (just refer to each place)

2. Manila- from Manila take a plane (CebuPac, PhilAir, ZestAir) or a ferry that usually takes 2 nights (Superferry) to Cagayan De Oro (CDO) or Butuan City/Nasipit (BXU).

2.Cebu- from Cebu take a plane (CebuPac, PhilAir, ZestAir) or a ferry that takes overnight (Superferry, Cebu Ferries, TransAsia, Gothong) to Cagayan De Oro (CDO) or Butuan City/Nasipit (BXU).

3. CDO - from CDO port take a Cab (or hire the cab that goes directly to Medina but costs a lot) to Agora Terminal and take the Bus that goes to Butuan and just tell the conductor or driver to drop you at Medina, and Walla! you're there in 1-2hrs.

3.BXU - from BXU port take a motorsikad to the Terminal and ride a Bus that goes to Cagayan De Oro and tell the conductor or the driver to drop you to Medina, and Walla! you're there in more or less 1hour.

1M for Sinulog 2012

Sinulog 2012 will definitely be the country's grandest celebration next year.

As I was doing my research for my Sinulog posts, Sunstar had this report titled: "Sinulog Foundation to give P1M as grand prize for 2012" (http://bit.ly/oyNnKt). Wow.

According to the report, Sinulog will have an Asean theme following the Cebu's new title as the City of Culture by the South Asean Nations (Asean).

Job Hunting

Even before passing the July Nursing Licensure Exam (NLE), I have already thoughts in mind to look for a job. It just seem stagnant when I'm doing nothing and I dont like the feeling of an empty pocket. And so I tried to apply online with the help of Jobstreet.com. I also tried mynimo.com and jobsdb.com.

It wasn't that easy. You could see a lot of BPO/Call Center companies hiring almost anyone. Some would offer a sign-up bonus but most of them encourages fresh graduates and those without experience to apply. And yes I am attracted and interested.

After a lot of clicking over the lists provided at Jobstreet.com, I was contacted by Excel Asia through SMS and told me Im sort of qualified for the job and so I was excited. I went to Excel Asia on the instructed date and time, and during my interview my nerves just drive me nuts not to mention my cough and colds that were stealing my moment. Anyways, my initial assessment was fine, Ms. Shine from the Company advised me a lot of things and she endorsed me to two companies: Stream and Sykes, both are Call Centers. I wanted Stream since its a one ride away from my place and so it was the first company I went into after taking an early lunch.

Excel Asia is an agency that provides HR solutions. For example, they look for people and have them assessed and endorsed to their partner companies. If in case during the assessment they found out that the person is not that equipped yet then they offer him a training.

My impressions about Stream is really high because I like their tarpaulins along the avenues and I heard they are a multi-awarded company. Well I don't know much about BPO industry though.

I went to Stream and waited for my turn until we were called for the initial written test which I passed. But when I had my interview, I went nuts and Im sort of embarrassed with my lame answers. They advised me to wait for a call if in case they chose me, but of course I knew it already.

And so now, I'm widening my horizons again and I'm looking for another company and I'm considering different industries.

Sinulog 2012 safety preparations

Sinulog 2012 is still less than a year away, but preparing for this celebration does not take only a few months but actually it takes a whole year (well, I guess so). Especially Security, considering the growing numbers of fans and devotees attending the celebrations from December to January, it needs a very critical and prioritized planning.

Searching the internet for the earliest updates of Sinulog 2012, i found this:

“Crowd control has been a perennial problem ever since but for this year, we commend the police in maintaining peace. This year, there's no report of untoward incidents,” Ballesteros told CEBU DAILY NEWS. - CDN

I also read on the article that there will be additional bleachers.

Traffic is also one of the concerns, well of course what would you expect. But maybe with proper traffic management and crowd control everything will be at ease.

It is also important for everyone to be cooperative. Maybe during the celebration, instead of using your cars, why don't you maximize your muscles and exercise and by doing so you save energy and reduces consumption of fuels. And during the grand parade, if you don't have official pass, please stay on the side. And keep your jewelries at home and your 1 million pesos cash in your banks.

So I hope there will be an early update for schedules and programs, and I will be waiting and will post it as soon as its available.

Scrub In

So graduation is almost near and everybody is very eager to complete their Operating Room and Delivery Room cases. Birthing homes have been affiliated with just to provide enough cases for everyone, but still there are quiet a number who still needs (at least) 1-4 lacking cases in average. So I can describe the feeling in one word, scrubs.
OR and DR exposures are very helpful for us nurses since we will be the ones who will assist the surgeon and the OB gynecologist and the doctors in general in performing surgical procedures and birth. So it is very crucial and very important to have mastered different skills and be equipped with scrub sets that will promote aseptic technique. By the way, I saw a discounted scrubs online that were very nice. You may also try some medical uniform scrubs.

Just a few days ago, I have completed my one last case thanks to the help of my clinical instructors and duty mates. It sure was fulfilling. So I hope other future nurses benefited from the exposures they had. And always remember to wear the right knowledge and skills and the right scrubs.

Mixing contemporary designs with the beautiful natural scenery is just amazing. With (I think) affordable rates, you would enjoy just as much beach, scenery and hospitality. And by the way, the room is great.

Location

Located at Punta Engaño, Mactan, Cebu, going there will require you to ride a jeepney (if you know the way, which i don't) or a taxi (which usually costs 300pesos when you are from F. Ramos St.) or with your own car :D. From the airport, I guess it would only take you 10-25 minutes. You will pass by Shangri La Mactan, and Hilton on your way there.

If you are on a tight budget or would prefer to have a taste of the SUTUKIL outside the hotel, you may lead your way back to the eskina, somewhere around the Mactan Shrine, or go gaga and just ride whatever jeepney that passes by until you see some SUTUKIL or grill restaurants.

The Velez Nurses Alumni Association once again organized the annual event called The Epifania Mendoza Velez Memorial Lecture. This year's commemoration was held at City Sports Club Cebu last January 29, 2011 with a very special speaker Mr. Anthony Pangilinan.

The future alumni, us the senior nursing students, were also invited to the said event.

The announcement of new elected officers also took place.

Mr. Anthony Pangilinan's life coaching talk was titled Winning the Game of Life. He said that there is a way to succeeding life. He also mentioned, "getting into trouble is not your choice... getting through trouble well is your choice". Indeed trouble is inevitable. He taught us a formula in surviving this chaotic life-- ABF x 3.

Mr. Anthony Pangilinan's sharing and lecture left everyone speechless. He is really great.

Disclosure: Anthony is a management trainer, motivational speaker, and productivity consultant. In various capacities, he leads a myriad of organizations. He is also the Chief Trainer of Inspire Leadership Consultancy, the official licensee of all John Maxwell and Zig Ziglar corporate programs in the Philippines. He is Chairman of the Master’s Lighthouse Foundation, and consultant-trainer for Blue Ocean Strategy Asia Pacific. Sinulog 2011 is still fresh but now I just read an article about Sinulog 2012 that there will be more prizes and a futuristic approach. According to CDN, there will be robotics.

Pit Senyor! Sinulog 2011!

The mother of festivities-- Sinulog! And of course, everybody was excited. Gigantic speakers and loud music of the Sinulog theme is hitting every corner of the metro. Colorful hats, alluring masks and head dresses reign all over the place, not to mention the henna tattoos that inks everybody with joy and celebration. Food stalls, bazaar, and booze are all over.

Darn, it was raining and sometimes it goes hard. But it did not send the Cebuanos back to their homes. It was reported that 3 million witnessed the event, ~~pretty less than last year~~ almost double from last year's ~~nonetheless~~, everyone was happy and enjoyed the street dancing.

Shining, even if the skies were pouring a lot of emotions, Stars from tv networks joined the Sinulog Grand Parade on their respective floats. Well, luckily I have spotted aplenty, that includes the very gorgeous Rhian Ramos, the very fierce Solenn Heusaff along with other stars in one float. And earlier, me and my photo buddy and all-around buddy Kae, were caught conversing with Enzo Pineda a star from GMA network. He was very down to earth and very nice and cute, he started the short conversation and Kae was like "uh okay,...so did you party?". Reymond Gutierrez was also there, snobbish. And many more bright stars (my description might be very subjective) from the network. Ogie Alcasid was spotted riding the MLhuiller float. Annabelle Rama on the grand stand. Pnoy was actually there on the very first part of the program at the City Sports Complex, I just saw him on TV.

I'm alive, alert, awake, enthusiastic! I almost did not want to rest at least for awhile, I did not mention I was still on the streets at dawn (now i did XD) prior to the grand parade and hit home at 6am. Me and Kae joined the photo contest and we should have been on the streets early, but instead at 6am we were still going back to the HQ and took some sleep.

Rain or Shine, here we are... CLICK CLICK CLICK... oops, foggy! I need plastic!

The rain was disturbing my shots, I can't quickly think of a composition and then this wave of photogs covered my view. We had to use our back-up umbrellas to protect us and our cameras from getting wet. And since we don't have much stuff, we improvised plastics and wrapped it around our camera bodies. Kae got the Robinsons supermarket, haha. I think I only have a few good shots, or maybe no good shots at all.

Being part of the contest gives you a convenient pass to the City Sports Complex and a stamp.

There was this particular contingent that wowed me and the other expectators. The dancers from the Talamban Elementary School were very graceful in dancing their Ritual and their beautiful props were perfectly choreographed, and it gave me goosebumps all over. I wasn't able to take a nice pic since I don't have a very zoomy lens. (My judgement does not necessarily reflect the winners =D ). I didn't get to see other contingents on their rituals because we were on the streets again.
